Société Française de Phlébologie, (French phlebology society)

The Société Française de Phlébologie, (SFP), founded in 1947 by Raymond Tournay is the oldest Society in the phlebology field. Its role is to organise meetings and congresses, to be at the forefront of phlebology research, to provide continuing education in phlebology and to develop and publish guidelines in phlebology. Its recently revamped website is a vital knowledge-sharing tool.

Thanks to the international scope of its brainchild, the Union Internationale de Phlébologie (International Union of Phlebology), it can round up new information that will change of face of phlebology practice of tomorrow for everyone.

Driven by these roots, bolstered over the years, the SFP has opted for a policy of constant development whilst remaining open-ended :

- open to other disciplines for practitioners seeking training, interaction, wishing to further themselves and learn. It has over 1,600 members. As the strength of the care chain lies in the hands of each healthcare professional, the Société Française de Phlébologie decided to make itself accessible to everyone by creating the title of Partner Member (PM)).

With the emphasis on promoting excellence in Phlebology practice and its members being proactive in the SFP’s working, the Governing Council created the Title of “Titular Member” (TM).

University Training:
Close partnering with the University enables young foreign and French practitioners to acquire initial education in phlebology (phlebology university diploma from Paris VI university).

Regional initiatives
The regional CME (Continuing Medical Education) meetings of the SFP are aimed at taking a look at the latest techniques presented by "expert" speakers from all over France, followed by targeted practical workshops focused on providing help and sound experience to all those interested.

National initiatives
Twice a year the SFP organises meetings where reports, releases, findings and films are presented by members or guest physicians. These presentations are followed by discussions.

International network :
SFP can boast 300 international members. A great deal of dialogue takes place and this is set to further increase in the next joint meetings (Phlebology Societies: German, British, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, North American, etc) as well during the Union Internationale de Phlébologie encounters in which the SFP is proactive.
